Stand By Me

With everything going on in the world it may look like change isn't attainable. However, with the power of unity and companionship, change seems a lot closer to reach. Playing for Change produced a music video showcasing just that. It shows that unity and standing together can really make a powerful impact. In the video "Song Around The World", the clips of musicians from around the world are weaved together to transform the iconic song "Stand By Me". The layering of the different musical styles changes the sound into a more wholesome and full one. The images that impacted me the most were when the video shifts from outside of the US to other countries. I believe that this was very effective because in order to show the producers argument, incorporating these different places and artists in the video plays into the argument that it's better together. These images show that even though there's still a lot of violence in the world, people can still come t

Critical Response

In Gerard Jones's essay, Violent Media is Good for Kids , he makes a claim that justifies the benefits of violent media in children's lives. Jones clearly agrees that violent media (movies, comic books, etc.) is helpful to children. He claims that these stories help children cope with their early stages of life. In the second paragraph, Jones states that comics "  were good for me because they were juvenile. And violent." He, later on, goes to state that the Marvel character the incredible hulk helped him because  "s uddenly I had a fantasy self to carry my stifled rage and buried desire for power." He helps the audience picture what the world would be like if we learned from hands-on experience forcing us to think for ourselves rather than to repeat our teachers. He also deduces that those who actually crave knowledge would be able to do more learning in the real world rather than in a classroom setting wasting time.

College is a waste of time

In Dale Stephens' essay " College Is A Waste of Time ", he brings about an important argument: Is going to college worth it? There are those who think that college is a waste of time and the others who believe that college is mandatory for a good future. However, in order to properly voice out those opinions, there is a certain structure to follow in order to ensure an effective argument. This particular structure is referred to as the Four Pillars of Argument. The first pillar would be a thesis which includes the main point that you're trying to prove. Next would be the evidence. The evidence is what makes your thesis statement stronger and would help your audience see your side clearer. Third would be a refutation. A refutation addresses the other side of the argument in order to discredit the other side making your side stronger. Lastly, to close up the argument you use a concluding statement in order to tie in your point and refocus your argument. We can use S
